After some warm days had melted the snow off the lake and made the surface of the ice nice and smooth for skating, my son begged me to take him to the lake. It was a beautiful sunny day, but very cold and I knew that the wind would be whipping at the lake...and I was right.
My child doesn't seem to mind the cold half as much as I do and after taking some photos I went and sat in the car and tried to figure out my soduko puzzles. I did think that these animal tracks - probably deer- that had been frozen into the top of the lake were pretty cool. We could see that they made a path all the way across the lake to the Girl Scout Camp side.
On a warmer day, when much of the snow had melted away, we walked down the street to see what was in the woods. We had just moved to this house in the Fall and hadn't really had a chance to check out the wooded areas all around us.
The big valley area full of tall trees and a little winter stream was pretty cool. My son had fun sliding on his belly down the steep hills. We found the tracks of a racoon and deer and something like a cat paw print, but I wasn't sure what that was. Since the snow was still well frozen we could walk on top and dig in just enough to get a grip to go up the hills.
We had a great time.

I love the animal tracks across the ice. Neat picture. It would be cool to discover something like that so close to home. Gee, all I ever get are skunk tracks from the dogs chasing them out of the yard. LOL
